If you have never met these seals with amazing boils and children's eyes that will leave you mouth "bay", put on your boots, it's time!
For the record, the Bay of Somme Seal Colony is the largest in France.
Go to the tip of the Hourdel, this is where it all begins. Penetrate these large spaces and strips of white sand. Discover then, one, then two, then, little by little, a multitude of these funny little heads emerge from the waters. It's a unique moment. We are not at the zoo, but truly at home. In their home. Their natural habitat. We are welcome. Their big, wide, gentle eyes seem filled with indescribable kindness and humanity. We are here and we are not moving. A real moment of happiness that you will share with your children.
If it seems to you that some seals sometimes do twice as much as their neighbours, that is normal. There are 2 varieties of seals in the Bay of Somme. But the guide will tell you more about their features.
At what time of the year can we see them?
All year round! From high tide to low tide. At the end of spring, however, you can discover the moving spectacle of the young seals that have just been born.
Where and how to observe the Seal?
It is at the Tip of hourdel that the seal colony is the largest in the Bay of Somme. A small fishing village located 10km from St Valéry-sur-Somme. Parking is possible just after the port of Hourdel but also along the quay.
With guide or without guide?
A guide will allow you to approach the seals more ready and learn more precisely about these incredible marine mammals. It will also provide you with a pair of binoculars very practical to contemplate them. If you wish, the guide Maxime Marzi will be happy to accompany you: http://www.guide-baie-somme.com/.
