Amiens cathedral

Did you know that Amiens cathedral is the largest Gothic cathedral in France? It's twice the volume of Notre Dame de Paris! That's quite something! You have to be impressed when you arrive on the cathedral square by the vertiginous height and splendour of its facade! Your children will be fascinated by all the little details that are in marvellous harmony: gargoyles, angels, multi-coloured rose windows... When you're in the nave you're overwhelmed with a feeling of immensity. The octagonal maze formed by its paving invites you to penetrate it. That smell, that silence, that light seem to call you to a fabulous journey in time.

When and how to visit the cathedral

• The cathedral can be visited in free access all year round from Tuesday to Sunday. The rental of an audio-guide is offered by the Amiens Tourist Office.
• Paid guided tours are organized with tour guides upon reservation.
• Access to the towers is highly recommended for a grandiose show more than 100m on the city of Amiens! (Entrance fee).

An anecdote

The cathedral is said to hold the holy relics of the skull of Saint John the Baptist, which may have been stolen during the looting of Constantinople by the crusades in 1204. The mystery is unsolved!
