A small pond for man, a huge gift for biodiversity!
Around this string of ponds, some well-established wet woodland has taken root: aspen, ash or white willow. You can also find some more recent willow woods which enjoy this type of cooler land.
Feet in the water…
In these microenvironments, the nature-water combination creates oases for a large number wild species.
These pools offer an exceptional ecological richness with their aquatic plants favoured by amphibians, dragonflies or water beetles, also known as “water scarabs”…
When birds do sing, hey ding a ding, ding
Wet woodlands are home to some remarkable species of bird, including the Icterine warbler, a small songbird under threat of extinction in the Hauts-de-France region.
Along with plenty of places for specific flora to live and fauna dependent on watering places, such as the Brachytron pratense or hairy dragonfly, a dragonfly that needs good quality, verdant waterways to reproduce.
These wetland areas play a significant role in feeding groundwater, managing floods or droughts and are home to bird species that value the pond vegetation for their nests and young. They represent a real concern in combating climate change and an important ecological heritage to be protected.
